What is a correct attribution?

For a good attribution you need to include the following information:

  • Title of the work
  • The name of the creator of the work
  • The URL where the work is hosted
  • The type of license under which the work is available; and a link to the details of the license

A good rule of thumb is to use the acronym TASL, which stands for Title, Author, Source, License.

With this tool you can build your attribution properly (click on the image to visit the website).

When you modify a work, let it know in the attribution by adding the sentence: “Desaturated from original”.

Lastly, don’t make it too complicated. Just make sure your attribution is reasonable and suited to the medium you’re working with. That being said, you still have to include attribution requirements somehow, even if it’s just a link.
